How Does Stop Start Work and How Does It Help
We’ve all seen a “Stop Start” function on newer model cars, but what does it actually do? And why should you use it? Well, here at CMH Mahindra Pinetown, we’re ready to answer these very questions.

Understanding Stop Start with the Mahindra XUV 3XO
We will be using the Mahindra XUV 3XO for our demonstration, which comes with the Push Start functionality. The Push Start Button is generally indicated with an “(A)” symbol in your vehicle cockpit.
When activated, the vehicle’s engine control unit (ECU) detects when your car is stationary, such as at a red light or in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It does this by detecting the driver pressing their foot brake (Automatic) or pressing down on their clutch (Manual).
How It Works
When the car is stationary, the ECU will cut the feeding of fuel to the engine, effectively shutting off the engine. When the ECU detects that the driver wants to move again—such as releasing the footbrake or clutch—the ECU will begin to feed fuel back into the engine, restarting it instantly.

Benefits of Stop Start Functionality
Why should you use Stop Start functionality? Here are the two main reasons:
- Fuel Efficiency: It reduces your fuel consumption by cutting off the feeding of fuel when the car is idling.
- Environmental Impact: It helps the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions released when you are at a standstill.
